Teamwork PM for Project Management
Here at Overmortal, we've been programming with Ruby since before the days of the Ruby on Rails framework. Needless to say, we were well aware of Rails and the project it came from (Basecamp) from nearly the beginning. Basecamp is a fantastic project management solution that is well-deserved of the attention it gets, but at the end of the day, we use Teamwork PM in our company.
There are two major drawbacks that prevented us from staying with Basecamp - both of which were addressed by Teamwork PM. The first was that time tracking was only available in the $49 per month version of Basecamp. Time tracking is important to project management, and for Basecamp to exclude it from lower cost versions of the application is a shame.
The other major drawback was that Basecamp's time tracking was internal only. Only the owning company could track time - not any of the client companies. This makes sense at first glance, but we use freelancers a lot at Overmortal and we wanted to be able to have these freelancers keep track of their time on certain projects.
After doing some searching, we eventually came across Teamwork PM from Digital Crew. Although a little rougher around the edges than Basecamp, Teamwork PM addressed both of our concerns above and contained all of the same expected functionality as its competitor. Additionally, we've gotten almost immediate responsiveness from the Teamwork PM crew when we've needed questions answered. They're a really great team to deal with.
There's a ton of choices out there when it comes to project management software, and it seems like more are getting developed every day. But for what we need in our company, Teamwork PM has been the best fit so far. Now we're just waiting on an iPhone application and Freshbooks integration.
